Polyalkylene Glycols -A type are produced from statistical addition of a blend containing 50% Ethylene oxide and 50%propylene oxide to an initiator (n-Butanol).
The products are characterised by water solubility at lower temperatures, inverse solubility at higher
temperatures (giving rise to excellent lubrication in aqueous fluids, and antifoam properties above the cloud
point), and a highly polar polymer chain, which provides for high affinity to metal surfaces. As a result
Polyalkylene glycols possess exceptional lubricating properties. The products have excellent thermooxidative stability which is enhanced further by appropriate choice of antioxidants, allowing applications
well in excess of 200 °C.
These can be tailored to specific customer needs. For example 43/57 EO/PO, which is a 1:1 molar ratio,
results in product where most properties will remain similar, with small changes to for example specific
gravity and cloud point.
Although soluble in water, not all applications are water based.
